I recommend travelers avoid using BPost if at all possible - I would drive to a neighboring country rather than again suffer the inconvenience, frustration and expense caused by B-Post's incompetence and appalling approach to customer complaints. OK some background To lighten our cases we attempted to post a small quantity of used items some clothing, a pair of shoes and a book back to Australia.

At BPost's office in Ieper we explained our intent to the BPost employee who guided us in selecting an appropriate BPost package, addressing it and in the correct completion of the required customs declaration. After handing over 68 Euros, parcel tracking number in hand, we thought that we had found an effective if expensive solution to our over-packing. Belgium is a developed Western European country - of course their postal system is going to function - right??? After a couple of months the intended recipient my mother contacted us, noting that the parcel was yet to arrival.

Inquiries on the tracking number suggested the parcel remained in Belgium so we called BPost who "opened a file". Over a period of several months, a number of calls and numerous emails we have received little substantive help from BPost - they have variously claimed the parcel was incorrectly addressed it wasn't , that it had been rejected by customs, and on a couple of occasions that they had no idea where our parcel was.

In the end we independently tracked down the location of the parcel - it had been returned to our Ieper hotel. In September BPost finally issued a refund for the original postal cost - even in this they were seemingly confused, not knowing that the refund had already been issued against the first of the two active complaint files.

However, this leaves us with our goods stranded in Ieper, Belgium while we are thousands of kilometers away and with a postal service that is unwilling to send a parcel - really frustrating and a shame to lose our possessions. We really enjoyed the ten days we spent in Belgium - great scenery, history, food, chocolate and beer, but this experience has left a decidedly sour taste. It's a shame when the incompetence and uncooperative attitude of a national organisation reflects poorly on an otherwise enjoyable visit to a country.

Obviously, I am sorry that your parcel dispatch went wrong - at least the parcel wasn't lost, even though the contents are now useless to you, and the postage was refunded to you. As an everyday user of BPost's services I would have to say that I generally find them more efficient than I used to find Royal Mail in the UK, and it is perhaps indicative that items posted direct from the UK rather than via a "consolidator" are often delivered faster to me in Belgium than I would have expected them to be delivered within the UK itself.

From the price you quote, it is obvious that the parcel weighed less than 5kg and perhaps this is a more general lesson that, if you go over your luggage allowance, it is better to pay the airline's excess charges than to attempt to post or otherwise dispatch the overweight items. It is also worth noting that items posted whether via the post or a carrier may well incur custom's clearance charges when they arrive at their destination even though they are "used" items, and wouldn't have incurred charges if included in your luggage.

Sending items by ordinary post i. Or if the items are of so little value to you that it is not worth paying extra to bring them back, simply leave them behind. Even the world's best organisations mess things up from time to time, and in my experience it's not unusual for that to trigger a chain of events where lots of things go wrong.

It's no consolation to the customer, oif course, but just because this turned into a bag of fleas, it doesn't necessarily mean that Belgian Post is incompetent or that every attempt to send a parcel will result in the same problems.

I'm really sorry about what you went through,. As wirewiper says, there's always going to be a risk, however small, and I think you've been very unlucky.

I must admit that I've sometimes thought about posting a few things when I've been abroad on a long trip. I've never done so, though, because I was afraid of this sort of thing happening. I'm not the luckiest of people, and I always felt that if something was to go wrong, it would be my package it happened to. Our staff may also remove posts that do not follow our posting guidelines, and we reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. Thanks for being a part of the Tripadvisor travel community!

I totally agree that bpost is horrible similar to many Belgian companies, such as Belgacom, for example. In the ten years that I have been living in Belgium , they have made so many errors they lost parcels, did not deliver important mail, for a while I got all the mail of another person, just because the initials are the same etc.

And additionally, when you go to a postal office to complain in person, you get the rudest treatment you can possibly imagine.

All of the same complaints are made regularly about Royal Mail here in the UK. No doubt the same can be said about othe rpostal services in different countries as well. No, in my experience it's especially bad in Belgium.

I can compare it to a few other countries, and I have encountered by far the most problems here In addition, companies here still have the attitude that they are always right and the customer is always wrong. So they will never apalogize or even admit that they have made a mistake. Totally sympathise. I regularly have packages and recorded delivery letters delivered and have a problem almost every month. Either the postman does not ring and leaves a notice to collect the parcel at the post office.

Or he does not leave a notice at all. Or the parcel disappears. Or, as today, they are too busy to deliver a parcel supposed to be delivered yesterday and for which I paid express service. Very pleasant when you call customer service but they can't do anything.

And they will only accept a complaint if you really Insist. I think it is typical of some of the responses here that they have a go at you for trying to send something by bpost rather than reflect on what your experience demonstrates about bpost. If you order parcels from Amazon and some other delivery companies you have no choice. BPost is their preferred courier and you cannot choose.

And Bpost won't even allow you to complain about their services. When you try, they say that you have to contact the sender and get them to complain. They do not accept complaints from the recipients. Clearly they are worried at all the work they will have relying when people complain about their incompetent service. Only criticism I had was I got an email from Kurt bruswels the order was shipped but no email with a URL to track the shippment. Every Person I can please click for source info for, is one mail less for Kurt, giving him time to run in to other mails and all the other work he needs to do shipping labelstracking numbersViews Read Edit View history.

However, I received no confirmation msil my order now nearly 2 weeks later, and several attempts to communicate have gone ignored. Latest news from parcel tracking universe. Clarks 62070 be quite honoust with you all, we did got way more orders in way less time then expected. I'm happy with the cost from BIAB.
